God created you as a spiritual being that lives in a body, and for your body to be really well, your spirit must be well.
We are marvelously designed by God. He made us in a way that all our body systems work together in unimaginable and intricate ways. Our soul, spirit, mind and body are all connected and work together perfectly according to His design. Because we are designed by God, when we live according to His principles as outlined in the Bible, our life will be more full and we are more likely to experience a life of peace, joy and hope. This will create an environment that favors good health.
Most people don’t understand how significantly the condition of their spirit and soul affect their health-related behaviors and physical health. Chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other lifestyle-related illnesses can often be linked to unhealthy relationships – with God, self and others – or a wounded and hurting heart. Many people are not able to fully fulfill their life purpose because their health impedes them.
Clinical studies have demonstrated the importance of spiritual health in physical well being. Research has shown faith benefits related to many areas such as cancer, hypertension, general health, heart disease, and other physical ailments as well as psychological, psychiatric and substance abuse problems. This research shows that the most important factor is religious practice and belief. People who don’t just “talk the talk” but “walk the walk” demonstrate the most benefits.
Our spiritual health will have a significant impact on our emotional health which will have a major influence on our physical health. The inter-connection between the spirit, the soul and the body is certainly a complex connection; nevertheless, the connection is very real. The apostle John was inspired by God to write in 3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” This is an indication of the importance of attending to matters of the soul as it relates to being healthy.
There is an undeniable connection between stress, relationship issues and health, and the benefits you’ll gain by making healthier choices in these areas. Enhance your relationships with God, yourself and others and to better care for your health.
